The medical & healthcare industry of China has showed unprecedented development trend since 2013 when the State Council issued the Several Opinions by the State Council on Promoting the Development of Healthcare Industry and required to “vigorously introduce social capital, focus on expansion of the supply, innovate in service mode and improve people’s consumption capacity, meet people’s multi leveled and diversified needs for healthcare service with the purposes of injecting fresh impetus into economic transition and social development and create necessary conditions for the overall human advancement ” during the process of deepening the Healthcare Reform.

Under this background, the Strategic Alliance for the Medical & Healthcare Industry of China (hereinafter referred to as SAMHIC) was founded by Liu Yonghao, President of New Hope Group, Feng Lun, Chairman of Vantone Holdings, Weng Guoliang, Board Chairman of Vanhao International Group and other twelve famous entrepreneurs of medical and healthcare sector on November 4, 2013 as the first business organization with the integration of medical technology, talents, capital and real estate in China. Later on, Chen Dongsheng, Board Chairman of Taikang Life Insurance Co., Ltd, joined the SAMHIC on behalf of Taikang Community Investment Co. Ltd and took up the post of co-chairman of the SAMHIC, integrating various resources, coordinating and facilitating cooperation among the SAMHIC members with the jointed efforts of every SAMHIC members.

In its early stage, the SAMHIC won wide recognition from both inside and outside the industry with its clear goal, transparent organizational structure and enormous potential for development. Representatives of the SAMHIC were received by Vice Premier Liu Yandong in Fujian at the Symposium on the Development of Private Healthcare Industry in early 2014. According to the symposium spirit and the requirement of No. 40 Document issued by the State Council in 2013, the SAMHIC holds that talents are the key factor for the development of medical and healthcare industry. With the industry-oriented principle, in March 2014 the SAMHIC cooperated with University of Edinburgh, University of Dundee, Shanghai Jiaotong University and Faculty of Medicine of Putian University to set up the first administrative talents training center for private hospitals in China: the advanced program H-MBA of the SAMHIC which started in May 2015 with 100 initial students from many private hospitals across China. This H-MBA program focuses on applying the internationalized management measures to the practice of hospital management within Chinese healthcare system through the innovative and practice-oriented courses in order to meet our country’s demand for healthcare management talents and provide excellent talents for the rapid development of private hospitals. In March 2015, the SAMHIC had a meeting with the mission of the Healthcare UK which is established by the UK Department of Health, the National Health Service (NHS) and the UK Trade and Investment (UKTI). At the meeting, two parties conducted in-depth discussions on the experience of medical education, digital healthcare service, hospital operation and management and pensions, etc. and explored to match the two countries’ medical technology and enterprise cooperation with its needs, consequently promoting the medical resources integration of the two countries and facilitating the substantial progress of the two sides’ cooperation. Also in that month, Liu Yonghao, honorary chairman of the SAMHIC and president of New Hope Group, made a report to Premier Li Keqiang on the achievement of the SAMHIC at the third conference of the National People’s Congress.

Aiming at integrating market, optimizing resources, avoiding risks and coordinating development, the SAMHIC gives full play to private enterprises’ advantages of market development and flexible operation in medical and healthcare industry, cooperates with and helps each other, expands the financing channels, actively introduces advanced domestic and foreign medical technology and hospital administration experience, and allies with influential and large medical and healthcare enterprises within the industry to promote common development. The SAMHIC is a cooperative institution of medical and healthcare industry and it was established on the basis of voluntary participation, equality and thorough understanding of the alliance’s aims and with the signing of cooperation contracts.
